Gresham College, the oldest higher education institution in London, was founded in 1597. For more than 400 years, the school has offered free public lectures within the City of London. Each year, the college hosts more than a hundred public talks given by Gresham professors and other visiting speakers in Barnard's Inn Hall, which is featured in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. Since 2001, a growing archive of more than 1,000 recorded lectures has been released online. As it has long been an open space for the sharing of new ideas, the college has made significant influences in the formation of the Royal Society and throughout the Enlightenment period.
