As a flagship institution renowned for its research and academic rankings, the University of Houston offers over 300 degree programs in 12 colleges to over 40,000 students on its nearly 700 acre campus. With $130mm spent annually on research, the university is at the forefront of research in science, engineering, and technology. Founded as a junior college in 1927, by October 1933, a resolution was adopted by the state officially declaring the University of Houston as a four-year university. Since then it has grown into the third largest university in Texas, and the premier institution of the University of Houston System.
